DAS Spotlight for December 2005: Jackie R.

Jackie is in the kitty ears and tail in the DAS Otakon 2005 Club pic.

1.Name: Jackie R.

2. DAS Position/Role: DAS Treasurer

3. Location::Philadelphia, PA - soon to move to Feasterville, PA (Jan 2005).

4.What are you favorite animes, music, and asian cinema?
Anime: Animes: Gunslinger Girl, Tsubasa Chronicle, Cardcaptor Sakura, Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion (but not the 2 movies), Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and I know there are more but those are ones that come to mind =P
Music: I tend to be diverse in my musical tastes, though of late I have been very into Jpop/JRock. Though I still do have in my CD collection a bit of metal, a bit of rap (not "radio rap", though), a lot of celtic/folk, and a teeny bit of rock. I do not listen to the radio, only my CDs.
Cinema: I have not seen a whole lot of asian cinema, so I couldn't comment too much on this. I have seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and found it to be breathtaking.

4.Hobbies outside of anime? Are you kidding?! LOL. Just joking. I like to read fantasy books, mostly young adult stuff (though I am 25, I just find it to be more entertaining), as well as some Dean Koontz. I have read most of his library. I also, for some strange reason, really enjoy saving money and finding free things to do around town. I also sing badly in the car as an extra hobby ;-)

6. What do you like best about the DAS? I like the DAS because you are all so welcoming. Everyone can fit in here, and even though I have been a member for only 3 or so months, I was welcomed with open arms and really hit it off with most everyone. I also love how the DAS is so active. There is just always something going on, and it really adds to the social aspect.

7.What do you think the future holds for the DAS? I think DAS will continue to grow and prosper. We have a strong leadership, and most in the club desire to see things continue to move forward, and are willing to make the efforts to see that that happens. I hope that DAS will eventually expand into more states, and become a great big network of awesomeness =)

8.Do you cosplay? If so, what are your favorite costume(s) I don't have any current cosplays (unless you count ears and a tail =P), but I am working on a Caldina (Magic Knight Rayearth), and a Henrietta (Gunslinger Girl), sans the gun, but with Amati violin case.

9.Conventions attended and/or staffed? I have attended Otakon 2005, staffed/attended Zentrancon 2005. I am also planning to attend AnimeUSA 2005, AnimeNEXT 2006, Katsucon 2005, and if there is ever another Kosaikon, I will go to that =) I hope to attend lots of conventions over the next few years.

10. Have you ever named a pet/computer/insert word here after an anime or Asian character? If so, which and why? Not yet. I have a hamster named Squee, but that is as close as we've gotten =P My son tends to name our animals. He is 5, so doesn't know any anime names yet!

11. What theme or institution in anime should be decreased or increased and why?
I believe the theme of "hot chick with superpowers/with strange ears/is an alien falls into lap of unsuspecting teenage boy and falls in love with him" should be reduced. I do sometimes find it entertaining, but there are too many out there. Things with philosophical themes, such as Gunslinger Girl, should be increased. Themes that make your brain work are great, and evoke an emotional reaction, which I think all "great works of art" should do =)
